SKIN REJUVENATION
IPL Photofacial IN GLENDALE, ARIZONA
An IPL Photofacial, also known as photorejuvenation, is a non-invasive skin treatment that utilizes intense pulsed light (IPL) technology to improve skin tone and texture. By targeting deeper layers of the skin, IPL helps reduce wrinkles, even out complexion, and enhance overall skin appearance. This treatment is effective on various areas, including the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, and back, addressing concerns such as sun damage, age spots, rosacea, and spider veins.
During the procedure, a handheld device emits pulses of light that penetrate the skin, stimulating collagen production while breaking down unwanted pigmentation. Most patients experience little to no discomfort or downtime following an IPL Photofacial. Visible improvements typically appear within 1-3 weeks, with the best results achieved after 3-5 sessions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Yes! IPL effectively targets multiple skin concerns that become more prominent with age, leading to a more youthful appearance and a noticeable glow. Scientific studies assessing patients before and after IPL treatments have demonstrated significant improvements in fine lines, tone, and texture. While a single session can enhance skin appearance with lasting results, undergoing 1-3 IPL treatments annually can help maintain youthful skin. IPL may even slow and potentially reverse signs of aging!
Photofacials are designed to address photoaging, which leads to redness, brown spots, or an uneven complexion. After IPL treatment, the skin appears smoother with improved tone and texture. IPL can effectively improve various skin concerns, including:
- Skin discoloration
- Fine lines and wrinkles (including smoker’s lines)
- Broken blood vessels
- Age spots and liver spots
- Stretch marks
- Red or discolored scars
- Melasma
- Certain birthmarks
- Redness and rosacea
- Acne and acne scars
- Spider veins
- Freckles
Patients with very dark skin are not candidates for IPL. Those who are sun tanned or have been using retinol or Retina A in the last two weeks should postpone IPL.
IPL treatment feels similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. While the sensation may cause mild discomfort, most patients tolerate it without the need for a numbing agent. However, if you have sensitive skin, you can discuss the option of applying a numbing cream with our aesthetician before the procedure.
After treatment, patients may experience redness or temporary darkening of brown spots. Over the next few days, these spots may crust before naturally flaking or peeling away. To minimize the risk of burns or complications, it is crucial to have IPL performed by experienced and well-trained medical professionals.
Some redness or mild swelling may occur immediately after treatment, but it typically subsides quickly, allowing most patients to resume normal activities without downtime. Darkened or flaking spots that appear within a few days can usually be concealed with makeup. For optimal results, it is best to schedule treatment at least a couple of weeks before a significant event, such as a wedding.

AFTER CARE
What to Do:
- Cleanse your face gently with a mild cleanser twice daily and apply moisturizer afterward.
- Always use sun protection (SPF 30 or higher) when going outside.
- Apply an ice pack within the first 24 hours if you experience pain or bruising.
- Sleep on your back with your head elevated for the first few nights to reduce pressure on your face.
- Take prescribed cold sore or antibiotic medications, as IPL may trigger cold sore reactivation or infections.
- Contact your dermatologist if you experience severe pain, redness, or signs of infection.
What to Avoid:
- Avoid direct sun exposure during your IPL treatment series and for a few months after to prevent skin damage.
- Refrain from vigorous activities like exercise until inflammation subsides.
- Do not apply makeup or resume skincare routines until your doctor gives clearance to prevent irritation and infection.
- Avoid scratching or picking at the treated area to prevent irritation and scarring.
- Refrain from smoking and drinking, as they slow down the healing process.
Additional Tips:
Stay hydrated and eat a balanced diet to aid skin repair. Water helps flush out IPL’s breakdown products, while proper nutrition supports faster healing.
