SKIN REJUVENATION

HYPERPIGMENTATION TREATMENT IN GLENDALE, ARIZONA

If you suffer from hyperpigmentation, you know how genuinely frustrating it is to try to conceal, lighten or erase the spots and brown patches on your skin.

Hyperpigmentation is essentially a case of your pigment-producing cells being pushed into overdrive by either external factors (typically sun exposure) or internal factors such as hormonal shifts caused by pregnancy, birth control pills or menopause. Any form of hyperpigmentation will be worsened (sometimes significantly) by sun exposure.

Hyperpigmentation may be referred to by a number of names, including brown spots, melasma, age spots, “liver spots”, sun spots, sun freckles, pregnancy mask. Whether diffuse, as in melasma, or in single concentrated areas such as those in a freckle, hyperpigmentation is more often controlled than eliminated and in some cases the best response will be blending and lightening.

The most effective solutions to existing brown spots and unevenly-colored skin will be one of or a combination of Fractional Laser or Chemical Peels

At Touch and Glow Med Spa our staff can work with you to customize your treatment based on the seriousness of the pigmentation and determine the best preventative care. We will  Contact us today.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Unfortunately, this is not a yes-or-no question. Some forms of hyperpigmentation, like post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused by trauma to the skin, acne or other damage, may fade over time but there’s no guarantee. Hyperpigmentation caused by prolonged sun exposure likely worsens with time, especially on parts of the skin that are unprotected outside often, like hands. Determining if your hyperpigmentation will fade naturally takes time and relies on genetics and skin make-up, which is not something everyone wants to chance.

The first step to prevent hyperpigmentation is protecting the skin from common causes. You should use appropriate sun protection like SPF 30 or higher, hats and long sleeves to help defend against UV exposure. You’ll also want to avoid damaging the skin, which means no picking at scabs or acne and generally promoting calm, healthy skin.

After protecting against avoidable damage, you can prevent hyperpigmentation by interrupting the melanin production cycle with targeting skincare ingredients. For example, Kojic and phytic acids can help disrupt tyrosine, the first component in the production of melanin.

We can use any of the below procedure or a combination to treat depending your condition

IPL
Intense pulsed light (IPL) treats various skin types for aesthetic purposes across a range of skin concerns. IPL Photofacial treatment can also treat acne to achieve skin that is both clear and even tone.

Chemical Peels
Chemical peels can treat dark spots by removing the top layer of damaged skin and allowing your body to replace it with new, healthy skin. This procedure strips the top layer of the discolored skin, removing unwanted melanin or damaged cells. The new skin forms, reducing the appearance of dark spots and looking more vibrant overall.

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure to rejuvenate the appearance and feel of your skin anywhere on the body. It exfoliates and removes the topmost layer of the affected skin through a gentle process. The procedure is ideal for treating light scarring, discoloration, and more skin concerns.
The procedure can also be great for helping lighten post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The most common causes for the skin to darken are from acne, burns, or injuries. When trauma to the skin occurs, the body releases inflammatory cells. These cells cause melanocytes to produce more pigment in the skin. The procedure loosens and removes dead skin cells to reveal younger looking cells.
