A topical anesthetic is applied to the area that will be treated. Secondly, our clinician will draw a small sample of blood. This is then spun in a centrifuge for approximately ten minutes to separate the plasma from the other blood particles. AFTER CARE
To enjoy the best results and to avoid any adverse reactions it is important to follow your aftercare instructions.
Pre-treatment instructions.
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Drink at least 64 oz of water and eat a good snack before coming to prepare for the blood draw.
- Take 2000 mg of Vitamin C daily before your treatment. The earlier you start, the better!
- Avoid Omega 3s, Turmeric, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, Garlic Supplements for 7 days prior.
- To lessen your chance of irritation & redness, pause the use of Retinol & exfoliating acids 3 days before your treatment & for 3 days after.
Post-treatment instructions.
Just like with any procedure, you’ll want to protect your investment. In this case, your investment is your own skin. Here are a few simple ways to help your body heal and regenerate.
- Avoid sun expose- Wear sunscreen and protective clothing whether you are indoors or outside, as harmful UV rays can have a negative effect on the skin.
- Avoid alcohol- Alcohol can be inflammatory and can cause redness, blotchiness, and an uneven skin tone. Try to avoid it as much as possible to allow your PRF treatment to do its work.
- Avoid harsh exfoliants- If you regularly use chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or lactic acid, be sure to discuss with Dr. Guy if you should continue to use these after your treatment.
- Avoid hot showers- While it feels nice on a cold day or after a long day of work, hot water can be drying and damaging to the skin. Try to keep your shower at a comfortable temperature setting, especially when washing your face.
- Do not massage the treatment area
- Keep your head above your heart for 4 hours
- Do not exercise for 24-48 hours
- Continue to avoid Aspirin for 2 weeks post-procedure (do NOT stop taking any prescribed anticoagulants for this procedure unless cleared by your prescribing practitioner).
- If you are having pain or soreness, it is okay to take Tylenol (Acetaminophen) as directed per package recommendations
- Do not apply ice to the treatment area for 72 hours
- Avoid hot baths, saunas, and steam rooms for 3 days
